Ariane 5 is the fifth generation of rocket boosters from the Ariane Program. Although designed and constructed by the ESA, the Ariane 5 is being deployed by Arianespace. The booster rockets are used for the launch of telecommunications satellites.
The Ariana 5 components are built in Europe, after which they are shipped to French Guiana for assembly. When assembled the Ariana 5 is launched from platform ELA-3 at the Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSP) near Kourou.
It is in contrast to the other Arianes, Ariana 5 is a two-stage rocket. It has been operational since 1998 and from 2003 has taken over all flights from the Ariane 4.
